Balancing act: Mariah Carey loses her footing as she performs in Singapore

It's the moment every singer dreads - falling over while performing on stage.

Mariah Carey experienced just that during a concert in Singapore on Saturday.

The 40-year-old diva took a tumble as she belted out her song Make It Happen at a Formula 1 event.

Hitting the deck: Carey laughs as a backing dancer helps her to her feet

She ended up sitting on the stage before being helped up by one of her backing dancers.

As she was hoisted to her feet, Carey quickly joked: 'I meant to do that.'

But the Dreamlover singer was taking no chances and luckily an assistant was on hand to remove the vertiginous heels that no doubt contributed to her fall.

The female assistant removed her shoes as Carey continued to sing, before finishing the 90-minute performance barefoot.

The singer later tweeted: 'TY SO much to my fans in Singapore!!! Yeah, several hectic moments, (lol!)but I tried to swirl them into festive!.Love+ God Bless!'

Helping hand: Carey summons an assistant onto the stage

Carey has been married for two years to American Idol host Nick Cannon.

Rumours have been swirling that the singer is pregnant with their first child, but are yet to be confirmed by the star.

This summer Carey released a statement via her publicist, Cindi Berger, saying:
'I appreciate everyone's well wishes but I am very superstitious.

'When the time is right, everyone will know - even Cindi Berger.'

Cannon, 29, has also spoken out about the rumours.

'I've said it before and I'll say it time and time again – when my wife feels like talking about whatever she wants to talk about, you will hear it directly from her,' he said on his radio show in August.

Last week Carey confirmed she will be releasing a second Christmas album in November, sixteen years after releasing her first, titled Mariah Carey.
